This was a fight I was eager to watch, especially since it’s been a while since we last saw Chris Colbert in the ring. His last outing against Jose Valenzuela ended in his first career knockout loss, so I was curious to see how he would bounce back against a tough opponent like Omar Salcido, who had only one previous loss.

The fight started off competitive, with Colbert pressing the action in the first two rounds, showing confidence and eagerness to control the pace. But Salcido quickly found his rhythm, picking up the intensity in rounds three through five. He began to walk Colbert down, delivering powerful shots to the body and gradually wearing him down. Salcido’s pressure and body work made those middle rounds lean in his favor.

By the sixth round, Colbert started to adapt, using his footwork to stay out of range and landing punches in short spurts. This adjustment helped him win that round, but Salcido wasn’t backing down. He continued cutting off the ring effectively and found openings, including a huge left hook in the seventh round that visibly stunned Colbert.

From there, it became clear that Colbert was in survival mode. He spent much of the eighth round moving defensively, holding Salcido to disrupt his momentum and trying to avoid any more big shots. By the ninth, the ref issued a warning to Colbert for excessive holding, but Salcido pressed on, landing a clean uppercut that slipped through Colbert's high guard. Trapped on the ropes and under pressure, Colbert’s corner decided to throw in the towel. It was a surprising end, as he didn’t appear too hurt in that moment, but his corner clearly saw something we didn’t.

This was a huge win for Salcido and a disappointing upset for Colbert, marking his third loss in his last four fights. Colbert and his team now face some tough decisions moving forward. Hopefully, this defeat doesn’t shake his confidence too much, but it’s clear that adjustments are needed if he hopes to turn things around.
