In my opinion, Shakur Stevenson is the most skilled fighter in boxing today. His ring IQ is off the charts, and his reflexes and overall defense rank among the best I’ve ever seen. Every time Shakur steps into the ring, he makes it look effortless—not by delivering devastating knockouts, but by systematically breaking down his opponents. Don’t get me wrong, he’s more than capable of securing a knockout, as he’s proven multiple times. But what truly sets him apart is his ability to deliver punishing body shots, maintain a sharp jab, and seamlessly transition between counterpunching and fighting on the front foot. Simply put, there’s almost nothing Shakur can’t do in the ring.
And that’s exactly why so many fighters are reluctant to face him. The common excuse they use is that he’s "boring." But let’s be honest—if a fighter is supposedly "boring," wouldn’t that make them an easy target? Yet, even after what some would call a "rocky" performance against De Los Santos, no one is rushing to challenge him.
Shakur Stevenson is currently the WBC champion at 135 pounds, yet there’s a noticeable silence when it comes to fighters calling him out. He’s been vocal about wanting to fight top names like Vasiliy Lomachenko, George Kambosos, and Isaac "Pitbull" Cruz, but they’ve all found reasons to avoid stepping into the ring with him. Most recently, he’s been calling out William Zepeda, who claims he’s willing to fight Shakur—but sometimes, talk is just that, talk.
Shakur has a fight scheduled for October 12th, and there are rumors that Zepeda might be next in line. Hopefully, those rumors turn out to be true. Until then, Shakur Stevenson remains the most avoided fighter in boxing—a testament to just how dangerous he truly is.
